10 Must-Visit Restaurants on Your Next Arizona Road Trip

Matt’s Big Breakfast

Address: 825 N 1st St, Phoenix, AZ 85004

Hours: 7am-2pm

Matt’s Big Breakfast is a no-frills type of place but they’re near Arizona State University, so you know they have good food! They’ve been known to have lines wrapping around the block during the school year weekends, but luckily it was a weekday and I had no problems finding a table. There are a few seats outside which are lovely if it’s not blazing hot outside! With all the classic breakfast items, some light and healthy options, and good size portions (but not too big you can’t finish it) there’s something for everyone!

89Agave Cantina

Address: 254 AZ-89A, Sedona, AZ 86336

Hours: 11am-9pm

89Agave Cantina is a Sedona favorite for elevated Mexican food in a casual dining space with a lively patio. Offering authentic Mexican food with the freshest and best local ingredients, I can see why it’s the local favorite spot. This was one of my favorite restaurants on my Arizona Road Trip and if I lived close, I’d come here weekly. It was winter and chilly at night when I was visiting, so I decided to try the tortilla soup to warm up. OMG! It was the best tortilla soup I’ve had in my life (and I currently live in Mexico). They also offered a nice selection of beers, cocktails, and mocktails (which I appreciate!).

Secret Garden Cafe

Address: 336 AZ-179 f101, Sedona, AZ 86336

Hours: 8am-8pm

They’re not joking when they say Secret Garden Cafe. Walking here following Google Maps, I could not for the life of me find this place. It’s a bit hidden in the Tlaquepaque but once you see the adorable garden and the cozy cafe tucked behind it you know you’ve found it. I wasn’t super impressed with the staff but enjoyed the options of healthy items. Everything was flavorful and fresh!

Black Cow Cafe

Address: 229 N State Rte 89A, Sedona, AZ 86336

Hours: 10:30 am-9pm

Homemade ice cream from Black Cow Cafe is a treat to beat the heat of Arizona! Located in Uptown on State Street, we grabbed a few scoops to cool off from our adventure with Pink Jeep Tours and wander around the shops.

SaltRock Kitchen

Address: 100 Amara Ln #101, Sedona, AZ 86336

Hours: 7am-10:30am, 11:30am-4pm, 5pm-9pm

SaltRock Kitchen is located at Amara Resort and Spa and requires a reservation – but it’s worth it! Their indoor dining is very cozy but we chose to sit outside (even though it was freezing cold). We had a fire pit and blankets to keep us warm and the atmosphere was perfect! Fresh local ingredients create their seasonal menu of authentic Southwest entrees. The staff is very knowledgeable about their dishes and the ingredients and was super friendly!

Coffee Pot Restaurant

Address: 2050 W State Rte 89A, Sedona, AZ 86336

Hours: 6 am-2pm

With over 100 variations, the Coffee Pot Restaurant is known for its omelets in Sedona. It’s a local favorite and iconic establishment for tourists as you can see Coffee Pot Rock from the parking lot. Their menu also has benedicts, pancakes & waffles, Huevos Rancheros, and biscuits and gravy for those who don’t love omelets (like me).

BigE Steakhouse

Address: 395 AZ-64, Grand Canyon Village, AZ 86023

Hours: 3 pm-9 pm

During the offseason (November-February), the Grand Canyon Village has limited dining but we found BigE Steakhouse open. All the goods you’d expect; steak, baked potatoes, vegetables, and soup! But their desserts…WOW! 🤩

Foodie Club

Address: 400 AZ-64, Grand Canyon Village, AZ 86023

Hours: 6:30pm-10:30pm

Again, not a lot of options in the Grand Canyon Village for food but we needed to grab something before we went on our helicopter tour, so with very low expectations we ended up at the Foodie Club. The best way to describe it is a cafe inside a convenience store. Boy was I surprised! These little home fry potatoes and breakfast sandwiches were SO good and just the fuel I needed to start the day! It’s a great place for a grab-n-go meal and great service – way better than a fast-food chain.

Big Johns Texas BBQ

Address: 153 S Lake Powell Blvd, Page, AZ 86040

Hours: 11 am-9 pm

You’ll likely smell Big John’s Texas BBQ before you see it. Just look for the smoker out front and Big John’s Vintage Truck. Live music, generous portions, lots of flavors, and messy food is the best way to go when eating BBQ. Big John’s checks all the boxes!

Mariposa Latin Inspired Grill

Address: 700 AZ-89A, Sedona, AZ 86336

Hours: 11:30am-10pm

Mariposa is one of Sedona’s only fine dining restaurants that you MUST make a reservation for at least a week in advance, so definitely plan accordingly because the experience is worth it. Everything from the breathtaking views of the red rock canyons through their floor-to-ceiling windows, the rustic-chic decor, and their incredible food are 100/10. All of their ingredients are Arizona-grown and fresh. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and friendly but do note their firm dress code: no hiking attire, baseball caps, or flip flops.

Ziggy’s Magic Pizza Shop

Address: 401 W Van Buren St Suite B, Phoenix, AZ 85003

Hours: 12pm-2am

Ziggy’s Magic Pizza Shop looks like a normal pizza shop from the outside serving pizza by the slice or whole pizzas with outdoor dining. However, past the kitchen, through the freezer door is Stardust Pinbar Phoenix, a secret “pizza speakeasy”. It has a bar, dancefloor, pinball machines, and of course, more pizza! Aside from all these fun features, their pizza is REALLY good!
