The Collection, a popular chic shoe boutique, was founded by Frank Chen, a leather goods industry expert, in 2014. The Collection is conveniently located on the corner of Anting Lu and Jianguo Xi Lu in Xujiahuai district, Shanghai.
Every time I stop by the boutique, Frank is always welcoming me in with a glass of champagne, while a sales associate assists me in finding the trendiest pair of shoes for my size 40 feet!
Shopping and champagne? I’m never leaving!
When I do leave though, it’s typically not with just one pair of shoes. There’s always something new that I just can’t resist.
Since I don’t have the time (or funds) to stop by The Collection every week to check out new arrivals, I’m always happy to wake up and check my WeChat moments full of shoe porn. New arrivals and sales are posted daily or weekly to their official WeChat account (The Collection客服), which is nice especially if you’re looking for something specific.
Shopping, in general, can be frustrating and exhausting as a foreigner in Shanghai. I can never find my size, the quality is usually just mediocre, or the price is outrageous! I refuse to buy another cute pair of shoes that I’m not sure will even last a season. However, on the flip side, I’m not willing to eat ramen for a month to afford a pair of shoes…and honestly ladies, we shouldn’t have to! (Unless they’re a pair from Manolo Blahnik.)
If you’re like me, and many other foreign women, finding anything over a size 38 shoe can be difficult. The Collection really caters to the expat community by offering shoe sizes up to size 42! They even have seasonal ‘Big Shoe Days’. They bring all of the large sizes out of the warehouse and into the boutique. However, if you miss a ‘Big Shoe Day’ and just want to stop by and check out the new arrivals, the staff is always willing to check the stock in the warehouse next-door for your size.
I know that when I stop by The Collection, not only will I find shoes in my size but the quality and comfort will be there. I have sandals, booties, loafers, and stilettos from The Collection and they’re still in fantastic condition.
My booties even survived The 2018 Shanghai Snow Storm and came out looking brand new!
