Since beginning my fitness journey 4 years ago, I have been consumed by, well for lack of a better pun, what I consume! My passion for cooking began to simply feed my body with the proper nutrients to lose weight and fuel my workouts. Slowly, my obsessive compulsive disorder found solace in the routine and order of the daily macro tracking, weekly lists, planning, and meal prepping. It allowed me to leave the stresses of the day at the door to focus on spices, measuring, mixing, flipping and serving. All I concentrated on was the delicious meal I was making; it was truly an outlet.
Once I felt comfortable enough, I did what any other 20-something woman does, I scoured Pinterest for new recipes. Anyone who wanted a dinner invite, offering constructive criticism and bold taste buds was summoned. (Seriously, I even tried out new recipes on dates!) I became adventurous in trying recipes and ingredients and perfected my recipes only to move on to the next one.
I fed off the joy of providing new delicious meals to my loved ones. Silence at the dinner table was music to my ears, “mmmm this is so delicious” and “what’s the recipe?” were my favorite words. Eventually, friends urged me to start a food blog. A food blog? It seemed so daunting, so I did what any other millennial would do, I started a foodie Instagram account. At somewhat of the “last minute”, I decided to incorporate my passion for food into the rest of my blog, so I hope you will enjoy some of my favorite meals and recipes from my time in the United States and my adventure in learning to cook (and eat) like a local in China!
