Rule #1: Never Miss Anything Due to a Hangover
I woke up beyond hungover, I do not remember a time I’ve ever been so hungover in my life (ok, isn’t that what every single hungover person says? Right before, I’m never drinking again). As I lay in bed, I gave myself a mental pep talk; there is no hangover that a day floating down the river, sipping on beers can’t fix, you got this. And go!
The winding road to our drop-in spot on the Nolichucky River almost sent me over the edge. I was beyond useless as I sat in the only blown-up inner tube, drinking a beer, eating half my snacks, and watching Calen and my aunt pump up our inner tubes.
It was not only my aunt’s first time pumping up an inner-tube, but she was about to experience another first. The previous day at this time she was insistent on staying at the house and foregoing our day on the river. She’d never been inner tubing before and was hesitant to embark on this adventure with a group she’d never even met. Well, after 2 boxes of wine and a little convincing from Chris and Calen, she was in! How can you resist a Southern accent from a true Tennessean?
Floating the Nolichucky River
Essentials for floating the river include…
- Beer
- Loads of snacks
- Music
- GoPro & Floating Handle (or someone dumb enough to take their phone….I won’t say who)
- SPF (preferably the spray bottle as it’s easier to apply while floating)
- Cute hat and/or sunglasses
- Inner tubes (duh)
- Inflatable cooler (best thing ever invented)
- H2O
- And last, but certainly, not least, a laid back fun group of friends
We had all of the above and then some!
Luckily, I somehow managed to get roped to the inflatable cooler!
