Off the beaten path…right before we got a little “lost”

Denver Botanic Garden

The beauty of social media is many family and friends were tracking our trip via Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter. We received so many messages for recommendations. However, the most spontaneous was receiving a message to meet up with a very old friend from middle school now residing in Denver!

Denver Botanic Gardens

My friend, Val, met us at the Denver Botanic Garden for lunch at Hive Bistro Café inside the Botanic Gardens. After lunch, we wandered the gardens while she gave me Pokémon GO 101 lessons. (For the record, it was my one and only time Pokémon -ing…I’m too old to keep up!)

Val caught a few Pokémon while I just caught my retired science teacher aunt totally nerding out with employees. It was cute and I sent this picture to all my cousin (her kids).

Insect Hotels crafted from materials around the garden provide a place for bees to nest. Native bees are declining in number due to habitat loss and harmful pesticides. Installing these cute homes is just one way to practice pollinator-friendly gardening.

Val & I in the Ellipse Garden outside the historic Waring House. The large-scale art by glass artist Dale Chihuly, titled “Colorado” stands more than 11 feet tall and is part of his “Icicle Tower” series, a collection of spiky glass sculptures.

Promising our return to Colorado in the very near future, we unwillingly left Colorado en route to Wyoming! I easily could have stayed in Colorado for a week.
